Where did the Kelly & Windsor name come from?

Many people ask, where did the name Kelly & Windsor come from?

When we started designing and developing the home wares brand of quilts, pillows and underblankets it suddenly occurred to us one day, hey, we haven't got a brand name!

I didn't want to use my surname (not Australian nor easy to recall or pronounce) nor the kid's names or the pet's names either. So what do we call the new brand?

After some thought, we wanted to create a brand that had two words, similar to Fortnum & Masons' of London or Georg Jensen of Denmark or Kosta Boda of Sweden, which we thought would give the brand a stronger identity.

We kicked around a few name combinations and came up with Kelly & Windsor which was derived from Ned Kelly, the famous Australian bush ranger in the 1880's and Elizabeth Windsor, the queen of England. The rogue and the royal!

The story of the Kelly & Windsor brand name was featured on the ABC Landline tv program about Kelly & Windsor in 2007 and the secret was out.

The brand name has done us very well over the years, so now you know where it came from!
